Set it up
/verify setup channel:#verify turns verification on and posts a Verify button. Lyx finds your server's existing Unverified and Verified roles and uses them; it only makes the ones that are missing, so you never get duplicates. Pick roles yourself with verified_role and unverified_role if yours have other names.
New members get the Unverified role and swap it for the Verified role when they verify. Members who were already in the server are not affected.
Hide channels until people verify
/verify protect target: a category or a channel hides it from unverified members. For a category, its channels are hidden too, and any channel made in it later is hidden automatically. You can also pick a category with protect in /verify setup.
Lyx adds one permission to each channel: the Unverified role may not View Channel. It changes nothing else, so your existing permissions stay exactly as you set them. The verification channel always stays visible.
/verify protected lists what is hidden and /verify unprotect undoes it. On the dashboard, the Verification tab has Automatic setup: pick the Verified role (or let Lyx make one) and tick the channels to hide, and Lyx does the rest.
When Lyx joins a server it looks for an Unverified role (and makes one if there is none), so it is ready when you turn verification on. Lyx needs Manage Roles, and its role must be above the Unverified and Verified roles.
Methods
Change the method with /verify settings, then post a fresh button with /verify panel.
- Button: one click.
- Picture code (CAPTCHA): type the letters and numbers from an image.
- Math question: answer a quick sum.
- Code by DM: Lyx sends a 6-digit code by direct message. Members need DMs open.
- Custom question: your own question. With accepted answers, matching replies pass; without, staff read every answer.
Rules and staff review
Members get 3 attempts and 30 minutes by default. When they fail or run out of time Lyx kicks them (they can rejoin), bans them, sends them to staff review, or does nothing.
Staff review posts a card with Approve and Deny buttons in a review channel. Accounts younger than a set number of days can always go to review. See numbers with /verify stats.
Lyx stores only the outcome of each verification. It does not store IP addresses or what members typed, except a custom-question answer shown to staff in the review card.
