Rules
Each rule has its own switch. The master switch has to be on as well.
- Spam — more than N messages inside a window of S seconds.
- Mentions — a message mentioning at least N users and roles combined.
- Invites — Discord invite links (
discord.gg,discord.com/invite). - Links — any URL whose domain is not on the allowlist. Subdomains of allowed domains pass.
- Words — case-insensitive substring matches from your blocked list.
Punishments
Rules either delete the message or delete it and time the member out. Timeout length comes from the spam rule duration (default five minutes). Discord does not let a bot delete a message older than 14 days; AutoMod only sees new messages, so this rarely matters.
Members with Manage Messages or Administrator bypass every rule, including the word filter.
Honeypot
A honeypot is a trap channel. Spam bots and hacked accounts post the same message in every channel they can, so anyone who posts in the trap is caught straight away. Real members are told by a notice in the channel to stay out.
/honeypot setup creates a #honeypot channel at the top of the server, posts the notice and turns it on. To use a channel you already have, run /honeypot channel channel:#name.
The default action is a softban: the member is removed and their messages from the last hour are deleted across the server, but they can rejoin. That suits real people whose account was hacked. You can switch to a ban, a kick or a 24 hour timeout with /honeypot action, or on the dashboard.
Members with Manage Messages or Administrator are never caught, so staff can post in the channel. The honeypot works even while the AutoMod master switch is off, as long as the AutoMod module is on. Lyx needs Ban Members (or Kick Members, or Timeout Members, depending on the action) and a role above the people it catches.
Tuning the word filter
Substring matching is blunt. Short words match inside longer ones, so keep entries specific. The list is capped at 100 entries and each entry at 50 characters.
If a rule feels too aggressive, raise the spam window or switch the rule off before removing the whole module.
Configure it
From Discord: /automod status, /automod spam enabled:true count:5 seconds:5 action:timeout, /automod words enabled:true add:"slur".
From the dashboard: AutoMod tab, then save. The API validates ranges before writing, so a count of 500 is rejected rather than stored.
